Sir Sydney Lipworth has recently joined One Essex Court after a long career in business, insurance, banking and competition regulation. He has been Chairman of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission (now the Competition Commission). Other major roles have included being a co-founder and deputy chairman of the Allied Dunbar Assurance group, Chairman of Zeneca (now AstraZeneca) plc, deputy chairman of NatWest Group and Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council. He is currently a Trustee of the International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation. Over his business career he has also been, and is, a non executive director of a number of leading public companies in a diverse range of industries and activities.
